How Much Does Asbestos Garage Roof Removal Cost? (2026 UK Guide)

If your garage has a grey, corrugated roof and was built before 2000, there’s a good chance the sheets are asbestos cement. It’s one of the most common asbestos jobs we do across Berkshire, Surrey and Hampshire, and the first question is always the same: how much will it cost? Here’s a straight answer, plus what affects the price and what you should expect to get for your money.

Quick answer: what does it cost?

  • SafeZone single garage roof removal: from £550 + VAT, including safe removal, wrapping, transport and legal disposal.
  • Typical UK range: around £400 to £1,200 for a single or double garage roof, removal only.
  • Double garages, larger roofs or difficult access cost more. We give a free, fixed quote before any work starts.

What affects the price?

No two garages are quite the same. These are the things that move the price up or down:

  • Size of the roof. A typical single garage has around 10 to 14 sheets. A double garage or a long run of sheets means more time and more waste to dispose of.
  • Condition of the sheets. Sheets that are cracked, brittle or covered in moss take more care to remove in one piece, which keeps fibre release to a minimum.
  • Access. A garage on a driveway is quicker to clear than one tucked behind a house or at the end of a narrow alley.
  • Height and fixings. Taller roofs or awkward fixings can mean extra equipment.
  • Guttering, fascias and downpipes. On older garages these are often asbestos too. Removing them at the same time is usually cheaper than a second visit.
  • Full demolition. If you want the whole garage taken down, the asbestos roof comes off first and the rest is demolished and cleared afterwards. We can quote for both.

Not sure if your roof is asbestos?

You can’t tell for certain by looking. Corrugated cement sheets from before 2000 very often contain asbestos, but some later sheets don’t. If you’re unsure, we can take a sample and have it tested so you know exactly what you’re dealing with before you spend money on removal. Please don’t drill, cut, jet-wash or break the sheets to find out, as that is what releases fibres.

Why not just do it yourself?

Some homeowners consider it. The risk is in the details: sheets snap when lifted, old fixings shatter, and broken pieces need wrapping and disposing of correctly at a site that accepts asbestos. Most tips won’t take it at all. With a professional team, the job is usually done in one visit, the waste is disposed of legally, and you get paperwork to show it was handled properly, which is useful if you sell the house later.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take?

Most single garage roofs are removed and taken away in a single visit. We’ll give you a time estimate with your quote.

Will my garage be left open?

Yes, once the sheets are off the garage has no roof, so plan ahead for anything stored inside. Let us know if you’re arranging a new roof and we’ll work around your roofer’s dates.

Do you just collect sheets I’ve already taken down?

Yes. If the sheets are already down and wrapped, our asbestos collection service will pick them up and dispose of them legally.
